PHECC Certified — 3 Days

First Aid Response (FAR) — PHECC Certified

The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) First Aid Response (FAR) course is the national standard for workplace first aid and basic life support (BLS) in Ireland. Over 3 practical days, you’ll learn how to assess a casualty, manage common medical emergencies and injuries, and deliver effective care in the pre-hospital setting until emergency medical services arrive.

This course builds on Cardiac First Response (CFR) skills and expands into structured patient management — the skills expected of a trained First Aid Responder in real-world incidents.

What You'll Learn

If you need a first aid skill set that covers both adults and children, FAR is the recognised standard in Ireland.

Assessment

Assessment is completed using the PHECC CFR Community assessment sheet and relevant FAR assessment sheets, plus a short written exam.

Progression Opportunities

On successful completion, learners may progress to:

Emergency First Response (EFR)
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

FAR certification also supports roles as a workplace first aid responder and can be useful for people joining voluntary organisations or event medical providers.

FAQs

Common Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often about our training courses.

A person trained in first aid for children is required to be available to children at all times. Currently, there is no single accredited paediatric-first-aid-only course. Where a person has undertaken training in paediatric/first aid for children and has supporting documentation, this is generally acceptable.

There is no accredited first aid course specifically for use with children and it has been common for early years services to undertake training adapted for paediatric emergencies. However, because courses are not accredited, quality can vary. The DCYA recommends that early years staff completing first aid training for the first time should undertake First Aid Response (FAR) training from a PHECC-recognised institution. FAR covers an appropriate first aid skill set for both adults and children, and PHECC approves recognised institutions to deliver the training.

DX2 trust line (use if true and current): DX2 Training Solutions is a PHECC Recognised Institution and offers First Aid Response (FAR) training for those availing of training for the first time.

No. The PHECC Red Card is not a certification. It’s a practical prompt card designed to help you provide the right information quickly when calling emergency services.
